What do I get when I invest in a business?
Investors receive shares/stocks of a business when you invest. You become a shareholder of a company requesting investment.
Returns as a shareholder are typically in one, or both, of two ways:
1. Dividends: profits that are shared to shareholders
2. Capital Gains: profits (or loss) that a shareholder makes by selling the share/stocks he received at the initial investment.
NOTE: Investors should read all details about any dividend policies before investing to understand the investment-return philosophy of the founders of businesses before investing, to avoid the wrong expectations.
